SAMPLES OF MY WORK

VIEW
Vintage table cloths, canvas, and a chenille bedspread were used in the construction of this quilt. They were dyed, printed and discharged. Originally called "Nine" I renamed this quilt after recently submitting it for a show.

CONSTRUCTION I:
The process of this quilt was documented in January posts. It started with yellow fabric, applique and dense quilting. It was then washed , discharged, over-dyed and printed.

BLOCKS

This quilt began with solid blocks of fabric. Densely quilted then washed. After it was washed I then discharged, printed and over-dyed it.

3-D ILLUSIONS WITH "DISCHARGE"

Colleen Wise, local artist, author and teacher, will be teaching a one day workshop "Casting Shadows with Discharge".

Create a 3-D illusion on your quilt! In this workshop you will learn to create leaves (or other objects) that appear to float on the surface of your quilt. There's nothing difficult about this process and the results are amazing. "Discharging" is the process of removing dye from fabric. We'll use bleach in a controlled way to create the perfect background. Adding the leaves or other objects to this background creates the illusion of "floating" above the surface of your quilt. It's okay if you haven't learned to dye - this is a different process altogether. Easy enough for beginners and a fun surface design technique for experts.
The workshop is scheduled for July 12th, 2009, Sunday, 9:30 to 4:30. Enrollment fee is $60 per person. E-mail Debi at itsdebi@hotmail.com to get a registration form and to reserve your place in this workshop.
